Let’s face it, poker is a game of downswings, tilts, and coolers. But there’s one thing that these bad outcomes don’t have to affect: your own positive thinking. Just as much as strategy is a part of the game, psychology is as well. One of the best mindsets to take into a online poker game to play your best is to NOT do the following. Don’t think about how bad you’re running. Don’t think of the downswing in your bankroll. And don’t think of all the suck-outs you’ve experienced recently. Instead, think in terms of the game you are playing at that moment. When you do this, you negate the negative thinking and your focus is sharper and your mind more capable of thinking about what you need to do to succeed instead of dwelling on the past. The most revealing part of this is that such a mindset is not a winning mindset. When you get dealt KK and you start thinking “let’s see how I lose with them this time,” you’re triggering things in your subconscious mind that will, over the long run, make you play sub-optimally. Once you learn to keep in perspective that the bad poker online hands that you experience are simply a result of rare mathematical variance, you’ll begin to realize that over the course of time, your plays were in fact correct, you just got caught in a bad situation. Stop dwelling on these, and reap the rewards when the maths reward you. And by all means, don’t feel bad for yourself, you’ll only make things worse.

Poker is by nature a game of deception. But it doesn’t always have to be about trickery. Today we’re going to discern when trickery is necessary and when it’s not. Against most weaker players, you can stick to general poker online strategy. No need to get fancy with them. Actually, your fancy plays against an inexperienced player is more likely to back fire since they won’t recognize the game on that level. So for these players, you are really better off to make profit by just playing them straight forward.
Then you have your thinking players. The ones you can get a little tricky on, float on the turn, check raise, or slow play a monster and let them hang themselves. These players are more easily trapped by such play, since they’re thinking on a different level than the novice. But don’t be surprised if they play back at you and don’t fall for all your traps.
One thing I don’t advocate is that you make a player upset with you. Say you pulled off a minraise, got reraised, and reraised all-in on a hand that looked like you were making a desperation steal. You take down the pot and your poker online opponent’s stack. And when you outplay someone like that, it’s humiliating. But whatever you do, don’t rub it in. For when you do that, you end up opening yourself up as the target. “So what” you say. “I’m a better player, let him come for revenge.” Well that may be true that you’re a better player, but why make him up his game and make it harder to take his money? It’s just not economical.
I was recently reading a column by the Mad Genius Mike Caro and he was speaking of one of the most dangerous “trick” plays. If you’re playing against observant players who expect trickery from you, sometimes playing your hand straight forward can be the most profitable way to play it. The example he gives is from draw poker. Say you get dealt 3 of a kind. Most people will discard one card to disguise their trips. But say you discard two and play it straight forward like you have three of a kind. This in and of itself can confuse a seasoned player into thinking you’re drawing to something else. The best trick to pulling trickshot plays is to keep your opponents guessing whether or not you’re playing straight forward or playing with trickery. If you can get that level of confusion, then you’re well on your way to be able to pull off your tricks much more often, and make the pots you take down when playing straight forward that much bigger.

We live in a modern society that takes the authority away from men. Men are no longer honored for their innate abilities to lift, leap, and live off of the strength of their arm. They are part of corporate America, hidden behind office desks and encased in uncomfortable neck ties. When the work day is done, however, and the neck ties are loosened, many men are finding their masculine confidence again at the poker table.
Poker offers men a chance to live out the most ingrained of their masculine fantasies, to provide for those they love using their wits. They must outsmart the others at the table and conquer through a combination of intellect and natural ability. The online poker table is the modern jungle. Here men can be men and fight using the available tools for utmost supremacy. It’ s obvious when you look at the rise of poker online championships in recent years, and the celebrity status endowed on the winner, that men needed this boost of confidence. Poker fills a need for masculine self affirmation and strokes the male ego through dramatic pot wins. They needed to prove that they still have their basic caveman skills in a society that makes them stifle their desires to fit the common mold. The needed to prove that they still have the machismo to conquer.

While the worldwide economic downturn has hurt poker online and casinos for a while, there are encouraging sings that people are coming back to play Texas hold em poker online and other great casino games. As reported by AFP: Macau’s casinos raked in a record 1.5 billion dollars in August, their highest-ever monthly revenue and up more than 17 percent on the same month last year, a report said Thursday. Analysts hailed the second consecutive month of year-on-year revenue growth in the world’s largest casino market as the start of a recovery, the South China Morning Post said, after a 12.4 percent decline in the first half. The August figure of 11.27 billion patacas (1.5 billion dollars) was 17.8 percent higher than the previous month, and 33 percent more than the average monthly revenue during the 12 months to July, the report said.
The previous monthly record stood at 10.33 billion patacas in January 2008. Of course poker online hasn’t been hit as hard as casinos have, since there is less cost associated with it; like you don’t have to pay for travel expenses to get there.
But while online poker certainly makes up a large portion of our gaming lives, there is nothing quite like getting to a real brick and mortar card room every so often to pound the felt. Let’s hope casinos continue on the upswing.

Maybe it’s slightly more arcane now, a relic from the days of Doyle Brunson in a cowboy hat trucking his cash in duffel bags to back rooms of bar and so on, but every now and then you might still hear the old timer or the young gun with the old mind mention the idea of the ‘crying call,’ or when a poker player calls even against his better judgment, knowing there’s not much of anything he can beat with a bluff.
You see the crying call put on by players who like to be known for their ability to make plays based entirely on reads, who are capable of putting their opponents on nothing even in the face of big bets and calling down when they assume they might have lost, but want to see for sure. In recent years poker pros like Kenny Tran and Allen Cunningham have become known for their vast ability to read their opponents and make crazy (or in Kenny’s case, ’sick’) calls when most other players would have folded. Alternatively, these players are the same who can lay down huge poker hands in the face of an entirely different board.
If each poker hand tells a story, then some stories just don’t add up. Certainly it’s not good to call off your money all the time when you are sure you are beat, but a ‘crying call’ or a tough call in the right spot can make you known as a player who shouldn’t be bluffed at… unless your crying calls are often wrong, in which case, open fire!

Backgammon is one of the oldest and most entertaining games in the world. It is usually a fast paced game that is played in matches rather than just an individual game. It is even more popular today then ever before with the advent of online casino offering backgammon for both free play as well as real money.
Backgammon is a game that is fairly simple to learn the basics of, but can take a lifetime to master while having fun. Just like the game of poker. There are many places to learn the game from as well as sharpen your skills to be a more competitive player both online as well as at local tournaments.
It is strongly recommended that you learn and practice in the free play areas before entering into the real money backgammon areas. You must have a good understanding of the play as well as the doubling cube to be competitive in these arenas.
The game is played with 15 pieces for each player (usually one set black and one white) and the ultimate goal is to get your pieces off of the board before the opposing player. Each player in turn rolls two dice to determine how they may move their pieces on the board.
Take the time to check out backgammon, as it is a fast paced and enjoyable option for your gaming pleasure.

Is there such a thing as luck? In a poker game such as Texas Holdem, you get all your chips in preflop with pocket kings and are elated to see that another player holding pocket sevens has called your bet. Then that dreaded third seven falls on the flop. You can’t believe it! How horribly unlucky! You may even berate the other player for making such a “horrible” call.
In the heat of the moment it’s hard to see a situation for what it really is. How many times have your kings won against sevens (or other smaller pairs for that matter)? Probably a lot more times than they have lost. But those painful times when you lose are the ones that stick in your head and make you question whether you are truly “unlucky.” The truth is, as good as your hand is, most of the time a worse poker hand has ways in which they can catch up and end up beating you. Even if you’re a 90% favorite to win the hand, it’s still only 90%. That pesky little 10% side will kick in every now and then and as painful as it seems, you just need to forget about it and continue playing the best game you’ve got. If you get it in with the best every single time, you will find that you’ll be on the winning side more times than not.
