Let’s face it, poker is a game of downswings, tilts, and coolers. But there’s one thing that these bad outcomes don’t have to affect: your own positive thinking. Once you learn to keep in perspective that the bad poker online hands that you experience are simply a result of rare mathematical variance, you’ll begin to realize that over the course of time, your plays were in fact correct, you just got caught in a bad situation. Stop dwelling on these, and reap the rewards when the maths reward you. And by all means, don’t feel bad for yourself, you’ll only make things worse.

The example he gives is from draw poker. Say you get dealt 3 of a kind. Most people will discard one card to disguise their trips. But say you discard two and play it straight forward like you have three of a kind. This in and of itself can confuse a seasoned player into thinking you’re drawing to something else. The best trick to pulling trickshot plays is to keep your opponents guessing whether or not you’re playing straight forward or playing with trickery. If you can get that level of confusion, then you’re well on your way to be able to pull off your tricks much more often, and make the pots you take down when playing straight forward that much bigger.
