£4,000 Damages for Female Worker after Fall at Work
Law firm Irwin Mitchell has helped its client Linzi Hall of Sheffield reach an out of court settlement of 4,000 pounds with her employers MKM Building Supplies Ltd for a grievous injury suffered at the workplace.
Ms Hall was working as an office administrator for the company in 2007 when the accident took place. On the day of the accident, she was putting merchandise on a metal shelf, while an office cleaner was mopping the floor behind her. As she had not been warned about the floor being cleaned, her chair slipped when she moved it onto the wet floor. She fell off the chair and knocked her face against the shelf.
Ms Hall received several bruises and cuts on her face in addition to a broken nose because of the accident. She had to go through surgery to fix her broken nose and correct the breathing problems that she had developed after the incident.
Louise Morgan, a work accident lawyer with Irwin Mitchell, said that Ms Hall had to suffer a broken nose and respiratory problems because of the severity of her fall. She added that the incident could have been avoided had the cleaner warned Ms Hall about the wet floor before she had moved her chair.
Morgan made an example of the case to show companies that the consequences could be disastrous if health and safety rules are not followed inside the workplace.
